Employee Spotlight: Meet Tylynda

This month we’re shining our employee spotlight on Tylynda, one of our Independent Living Specialists who has been with OHB for one year.

Tylynda

OHB Strong

What do you enjoy most about working at OHB? What keeps you motivated?

I get the most enjoyment from working with the young people that we work with. It’s always nice.

What is your favorite place on campus? Why?

My favorite place on campus is the Combs Learning Center. I love the facility and how open it is to our clients. It gives our team and youth a home feel where we can meet and be comfortable and build great relationships with them and their children.

There are many nonprofits here in Omaha. Why do you choose to serve here at OHB?

I choose to work for OHB simply because my goals align with the plan and goals OHB has, and an added bonus is that I have firsthand experience with the great work that OHB has been providing for 100 years.

All about you…

Where did you grow up? Where are you from?

I am from Omaha but spent most of my high school years in Mobile, Alabama.

If you were doing karaoke tonight, what would you sing? Why?

If I was to sing a song it would be She’s a Bad Mama Jama by Carl Carlton. First, because I love the song. I would have to recruit some friends to join in. It must be a full production with dancing. Why? Because you must let your hair down and have fun and remind yourself you are a bad mama jama!

What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?

I love to read, travel and go mud bogging with the family.

What is a quote, mantra or affirmation you live by?

My mission in life is not merely to survive but to thrive, and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor and some style. – Maya Angelou

If you could…

If you could have dinner with one person from history, who would it be and what would you ask him/her?

If I could have dinner with someone, I would say it would be Maya Angelou. She is one of my favorite authors and the amount of wisdom I could gain from our conversations would be amazing.

If you had a year off, with pay, what would you do?

I would travel to all seven continents and just pick out a couple of the countries to explore.

If you could master one skill you don’t currently have, what would it be and why?

I would master speed reading. There is so much to learn and read about but not enough time in my day. I would love to learn this skill to get a few more books in per year.

Tell us about…

Your #1 guilty pleasure

My one guilty pleasure is that I love fruit roll ups.

Your absolute perfect day

My perfect day would be camping with the family and riding 4-wheelers.

Your favorite restaurant in Omaha

I don’t have a favorite restaurant, but the one I frequent the most is Texas roadhouse. I just love the rolls and strawberry lemonade.
