We’re shining our employee spotlight on Ross Wendel, our Quality Improvement Manager at OHB, who has been with us for over a decade.

OHB Strong

Tell us about your work here at OHB. What’s a typical day like for you?

I’d like to think no day is typical. That’s kind of what I like about it. Our daily tasks can vary depending upon the time of the year and the projects we are prioritizing. Currently we are focused on running Salesforce reports and reviewing/aggregating data for year end.

What do you enjoy most about working at OHB? What keeps you motivated?

I love collaborating with my co-workers to resolve problems and improve processes. It’s cliché, I  know, but I like to help people.

Of what are you most proud during your time at OHB?

I think my years as a case manager felt the most impactful. I enjoyed advocating for youth in court and helping families resolve problems.

All about you…

When you were five, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Astronaut

What was your first job?

My first real paying job was probably reffing YMCA soccer games. But well before that, I would help my buddy everyday with his afterschool paper route so he could get done faster and play football or roller-hockey.

What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?

I like to try to stay active. I play in 2-3 different soccer leagues at any given time. At OHB, in non-pandemic years, I enjoy playing volleyball, basketball, and racquetball with my co-workers. I also enjoy taking my son camping and swimming.

What animal best represents who you are? Why?

The whirligig beetle, known commonly as the waterbug. You’ll have to ask Jeff DeWispelare to find out why.

What is a quote, mantra or affirmation you live by?

Short term pain for long-term gain

What would most people be surprised to learn about you?

I was held hostage in an armed robbery.

If you could…

If you could have lunch with anyone, dead or live, who would it be and why?

My wife. Because it’s the right answer and I’m not in the business of getting things wrong.

If you had a year off with pay, what would you do?

Travel

If you could master one skill you don’t currently have, what would it be?

I’d dunk for sure!
