The Chat – Passing Along the Gift of Generosity

As summer gives way to fall, many of us begin looking ahead to family gatherings, holiday celebrations, and time spent with the people who matter most. It’s also a wonderful time to think about another tradition worth sharing: generosity.

For many, the desire to give back was learned from someone else. Maybe it was a parent who volunteered in the community, a grandparent who quietly supported causes they cared about, or a mentor who demonstrated that helping others isn’t just something we do; it’s part of who we are.

The good news is that generosity can be taught anytime in simple, meaningful ways. Consider involving children or grandchildren in conversations about the causes that matter to your family. Ask them what issues they care about and why. Invite them to help choose a charity to support, volunteer together, or look for opportunities to give back as a family.

At OHB, we’re fortunate to meet supporters whose commitment to helping others spans generations. It’s always inspiring to see families passing along values of compassion, service, and community responsibility.

One of the greatest gifts we can leave the next generation is the example we set right now. When young people see generosity in action, they learn that they, too, have the power to make a difference.

As you gather with family and friends in the months ahead, I encourage you to start a conversation about giving back. You never know whose life it might inspire.

As always, I’m here if you’d ever like to chat!
