Giving Smarter, Not Smaller: Navigating Generosity in Times of Inflation
As we head into the final months of the year, many families are feeling the continued pinch of inflation. Groceries cost more. Utilities are higher. And for some, it’s tempting to trim charitable giving just to stay afloat.
But here’s the good news: meaningful generosity doesn’t always require bigger checks. It just requires smarter choices.
Monthly Giving – One of the most powerful ways to make your giving go further is to set up a monthly gift. Even a modest recurring donation provides consistent support for the youth and families we serve at OHB. Your monthly gifts help ensure that help is available not just in moments of crisis but every day.
Non-cash Assets – You can also consider giving non-cash assets, like stocks or IRA distributions, which may offer tax advantages while helping you preserve your cash flow. I’d be happy to visit with you about how to make those types of gifts simple.
Employer Matching Programs – Another option is to look into employer matching programs. Many companies will double or even triple your gift, giving you a way to increase your impact without increasing your out-of-pocket cost. It’s worth asking your employer if this is available to you.
Collective Giving – And finally, don’t underestimate the power of collective giving. Whether you host a small fundraiser, give in honor of a loved one, or join with friends to support a cause you all care about, every act of generosity adds up.
At OHB, we continue to be inspired by the creative ways our supporters show up, especially in challenging times. Inflation may affect our wallets, but it doesn’t have to lessen our compassion.
Together, we can continue building brighter futures for those who need it most. Thank you for giving in whatever way feels right for you.
I’m always here to chat!
