For many young adults, turning 19 is a milestone. For Adol, it came with a much bigger question: How do I build a safe, stable life for my daughter?

As a single mother raising three-year-old Pour, Adol carried the weight of finding affordable housing, paying for childcare, and balancing the demands of work. More than anything, Adol worried about creating a stable home for her daughter.

Everything changed when Adol moved into OHB’s Supportive Community Living Program. For the first time, Adol had a home of her own and a chance to
give Pour the childhood she deserved.

“I was happy that I found a place to stay,” said Adol. “It felt so good that I had a place for my daughter.”

That safe, affordable home at OHB became the foundation for everything that followed. With one of her biggest worries lifted, Adol was able to focus on
building a future. She found childcare for Pour, advanced her career, continued her education, and began working toward goals that had once felt out of reach.

But perhaps the most powerful part of Adol’s story is the bond she shares with her daughter. Their love for one another is unmistakable. Adol treasures the simple moments spent together.

“It feels like home,” said Adol. “It’s peaceful and quiet.”

Today, as Pour eagerly awaits the start of preschool and counts down the days until she can play in the snow in her yard, mother and daughter are looking ahead together, grounded in the stability, opportunity, and hope they found at OHB.

Adol was recently named one of OHB’s Outstanding Program Participants of the Year. Her Independent Living Specialist, Brittany Koppes, wrote the following tribute celebrating Adol:

In just a little over a year, Adol has shown so much determination, growth, and responsibility. As a single mother, she has balanced the challenges of parenting while continuing to work hard toward building a successful future for herself and her child.

During Adol’s time in the program, she has gained and maintained employment, opened checking and savings accounts, and taken important steps toward financial independence. Adol has enrolled in college to pursue her LPN and successfully earned her CNA and CMA certifications along the way. I am so proud of everything Adol has achieved, and I am excited to see all the success that still lies ahead for her!
