Omaha Home for Boys Achieves COA Reaccreditation
Following is a special announcement from our President and CEO, Jeff DeWispelare:
COA – it’s such a small acronym, yet those three letters pack a big punch.
I am thrilled to let you know that the Home has once again been reaccredited through the Council on Accreditation (COA)! Not 
only did the June 12th email from COA President & CEO, Richard Klarberg, inform us that we have been reaccredited, but it also stated that the Home was expedited for reaccreditation for the second straight cycle! Being expedited means that we scored top marks in all accreditation standards.
Although the Home has maintained accreditation since our original review by COA, this is the longest stretch that we have maintained the highest marks needed to be expedited. This is a huge accomplishment for the agency as a whole.
As a valued supporter of the Home, I want to share the immense value that COA accreditation will add to all aspects of our operations. COA accreditation ensures that your support is being maximized by the Home as we are held to strict accountability and improvement measures.
COA was founded in 1977 and is an independent, nonprofit organization that partners with human service organizations worldwide to improve service delivery outcomes. Over 2,000 organizations have either successfully achieved, or are in the process of, accreditation. Being reaccredited by COA means the Home is among the best in the field. We are proud to be a part of this community of excellence!
Early preparation for the COA visit began in October 2017 with the first Accreditation Committee meeting. The Accreditation Committee consisted of staff members from throughout the organization who were responsible for gathering all of the information from different departments for the self-study and any on-site evidence COA requested. COA reaccredits agencies every four years, so you can imagine that preparation for the reaccreditation started well before the first committee meeting.
Representatives from COA visited the Home in late May 2018, conducting interviews with staff, reviewing policies and procedures, and touring our facilities. The COA representatives were incredibly impressed with the Home and how prepared and organized we were for the on-site visit.
Although the formal accreditation process is complete, our work is far from over. COA accreditation is a process by which the Home can consistently strive for new levels of excellence. Your continued support will allow us to better serve our youth and fulfill our mission.
