Meet the Newest (and Cutest) Members of our Farm Crew

This spring, five calves—Pepper, Piper, Pip, Presley, and Tani—joined the herd at OHB’s Cooper Memorial Farm. While they may be small now, these calves will soon play a big role in helping our youth grow.
Through OHB’s Valley View 4-H program, youth will work closely with the calves to prepare for local livestock shows and county fairs. From daily feeding and grooming, to learning how to handle livestock in the show ring, preparation for show season is a hands-on learning experience that teaches youth responsibility and provides routine. Youth also get to practice their public speaking skills when they answer judge’s questions about animal health and nutrition.

“For many of these boys, this is their first real exposure to agriculture,” said Farm Manager, Kelly Armbrust. “They’re learning what it means to show up every day, take care of something beyond themselves, and see the results of their hard work over time.”
The Valley View 4-H Club is the oldest known 4-H club in Nebraska, making it a longstanding and meaningful tradition at OHB. The program continues to teach responsibility, patience, and confidence—skills that last long after the fairgrounds have cleared.
