Introducing “Printed with Purpose”: A Creative New Chapter in OHB’s Skilled Trades Program

At Omaha Home for Boys, our ultimate goal is to prepare youth for productive, independent futures. One of the most hands-on ways we do that is through our Skilled Trades Program.

Launched in 2022, this program has empowered dozens of young people to explore careers in areas like woodworking, plumbing, electrical work, HVAC, and small engine repair, all while building confidence and self-sufficiency.

Now, we’re thrilled to announce an exciting new endeavor: Printed with Purpose, a screen-printing extension of our Skilled Trades Program that introduces youth to the art and business of custom merchandise.

From t-shirts and hats to water bottles and golf towels, OHB youth are now designing, pressing, and producing unique items that make a lasting impression. This spring, they proudly debuted Printed with Purpose at our OHB Golf Classic, creating one-of-a-kind merchandise for golfers, sponsors, and event partners.

While the public debut was a hit, some of the most meaningful creations have been made behind the scenes. Youth recently used their new screen-printing skills to create personalized Mother’s Day and Father’s Day gifts, a heartfelt surprise for parents and a powerful reminder of how far these young people have come. These small but deeply emotional moments show the full heart behind this purposeful new endeavor.

“Printed with Purpose does so much more than teach a new trade,” said Kyla Swartz, Farm Assistant at OHB and the leader of Printed with Purpose. “It offers a creative outlet and shows youth careers they may never have thought of before, especially careers in the entrepreneurial and artistic spaces.”

In addition to practical experience, Printed with Purpose helps youth build essential soft skills like conversation, follow-through, and punctuality, key ingredients for workplace success in any field.

In 2024 alone, nearly 50 youth participated in our Skilled Trades Program, developing practical skills and exploring career paths they never imagined. With the launch of Printed with Purpose, we’re expanding what’s possible even further and opening new doors for young people eager to shape their futures.

Whether they’re wiring a circuit or printing a custom design, youth at OHB are gaining skills, purpose, and pride in a job well done.
