We’re shining our employee spotlight on Zak Ruei, Youth Advocate in our Crisis Stabilization Program, who has been with us for several months now.

Tell us a bit about your work here at OHB. What’s a typical day like for you?
Our daily schedule in Crisis Stabilization includes getting youth up, making breakfast, setting up school work and helping them with any assignments, and setting up activities for the day that help them develop life skills and coping skills.
Of what are you most proud during your time at OHB?
Working with the youth and seeing them improve and grow in the program
There are many nonprofits in Omaha, why do you choose to serve here at OHB?
Its mission to support and strengthen youth across the community – I believe the youth are our future, and the best way to prepare them is through support, guidance and mentoring and that is what we strive for.

Family vacation trips to Canada every summer
Where did you grow up/where are you from?
Born in Ethiopia, Africa but migrated to the U.S. as a refugee at 2 years old
What animal best represents who you are? Why?
Ant. When an ant wants to follow a path, there’s nothing to stop it.

Iceland and Greece
