Employee Spotlight: Meet Tyja

We’re shining our employee spotlight on Tyja Strawn, Overnight Lead Youth Advocate at OHB, who has been here just over a year and a half.

What do you enjoy most about working at OHB? What keeps you motivated and excited?

What I enjoy most is being able to work in the different programs on campus. I’m motivated knowing that I have helped the youth at OHB.

Tell us a little about your work here at OHB. What’s a typical day like for you?

I am the overnight lead for Crisis Stabilization and Residential. I help to support and prepare staff for the day-to-day duties that may arise. We get the youth up during the week and make sure they are prepared for school or any appointments they may have.

Of what are you most proud during your time at OHB?

I am most proud of the overnight staff and how we have come together as a team to get things accomplished.

Where did you grow up?

Omaha, NE 

What was your first job?

My first job was a board operator at KHUB radio station in Fremont

What would most people be surprised to learn about you?

I play the violin. It’s blue. 

If you could…

If you had a year off with pay, what would you do?

Travel with my daughter and catch up on sleep

If you could acquire any superpower, what would it be and how would you use it?

Teleportation because I could get where I needed to be right away and avoid traffic

If you could master one skill you don’t currently have, what would it be and why?

I would learn to play the harp. It is a rare instrument and I love the way it sounds.
