When Easton* joined OHB’s Reporting Program last year, it was quickly apparent he had a unique spunk and spirit about him but needed guidance to channel it. He was often frustrated, arguing with peers and refusing staff direction. It wasn’t an easy start, but everyone saw his potential. With determination and a lot of teamwork, staff guided him on a more positive path.

Thanks to the support of donors like you, staff rallied around the troubled teen with a plan and the belief that Easton could overcome his challenges. He was provided with the tools he desperately needed: a safe place to step away and calm down, access to a trusted adult to talk things through, and different activities to keep him focused. Staff held weekly meetings with Easton where he and others could openly express frustrations and work through conflicts in a respectful way. Each of these steps was a new building block on his path to growth.

At first, it was slow-going. Change doesn’t happen overnight, but then, we began to see it – small, steady steps forward. Easton learned to voice his feelings calmly and work through disagreements without holding grudges. He began to connect with peers, forming real friendships for the first time in the program. As he grew, his confidence blossomed.

Today, Easton is one of the program’s shining stars! He helps guide youth who are new to the program and welcomes them with the same warmth he learned is so important. Not only that – he’s taking the skills he developed at OHB back into his home and school, showing maturity and resilience when faced with conflict.

The Reporting Program provides engaging educational activities and helps youth build critical life skills while being surrounded by experienced, compassionate staff – all of which come together to help youth build a foundation for a successful future.
